Lacrosse MVP
Last week I attended a lacrosse camp for the first time. I thought it would be a good way to learn a new sport and meet some new people. My whole life I have participated in all the traditional sports but new tried anything different. The camp was my attempt to try a new sport.
What I learned about lacrosse is that every player has a stick with a net on the end of it. This is called the “crosse.” Each team consists of ten men on the field at a time; a goalie, three defensemen, three midfielders and three attackers. The defensemen and attackers must stay on their respective ends of the field, while the midfielders are free to roam. There are two goals on each end of the field. Lacrosse is played with a hard rubber ball. The object of the game is to score by placing the ball in the net as many times as possible during the course of the game. Sounds simple enough, right?
But Wow, what a physical sport, and you are constantly running to open yourself up for you team mates. I think I ran a total of 5 miles a game. Although I felt like I picked up the concept and tactics of the game I defiantly need to work on my timing and agility. But with that said I must have made quite the impression because I won Most Improved Player of the camp. Everyone assured me that I deserve it and made me feel very confident in my new sport!
It was great to receive such a nice lacrosse trophy I can display with all my other athletic awards. Hopefully this lacrosse award will be the first of many.
